Important Note to Scholars

Resilience refers to the ability of an entity to experience stress and to either maintain or recover a sense of normalcy once the stressors have receded. The conference will focus on the types of stressors that can result from shortages or interruptions in energy and water supplies. In order to build local and regional resilience, communities will need to engage in efforts that are complex and collaborative. Such efforts will undoubtably result in the identification of unanswered questions that are best addressed via scientific investigations.

This is where your work becomes important to the conference. Because the conference is designed as a first step towards bringing together scholars with industry and governmental leaders, your abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts should attend the gap between research and lay audiences interested in building resilience. In other words, you should plan to explicitly address how your research is useful to industries, communities, activist groups, and/or governing bodies that attempt to address resilience concerns.

Conference Products

  • Extended Abstracts: These are required of all research participants desiring to be included in one of the conference research sessions. Please see the posted tracks (themes and key words) and write your abstract according to the requirements listed below. Remember, the abstract must also address how the research is useful beyond the academic setting. The abstract must demonstrate both academic rigor and community relevance.

  • Presentations at the Conference: You will be notified whether or not your abstract was accepted for presentation at the conference. The guidelines for the presentation are listed below. Remember, your session will likely be attended by industry and governmental leaders who read your abstract and who want to learn more. Be sure to use your time to speak to their curiosities as well as to demonstrate the academic rigor of your work.

  • Full Manuscripts:  If your extended abstract is accepted, you will have the option of submitting a completed manuscript for review. Only full manuscripts that follow the stated guidelines below will be considered for fast-track publication in a Special Issue of Journal of Innovation Science (IJIS), from Emerald Publishing.

The Organizing Committee of the Building Community Resilience Conference is pleased to announce a Fast-Track Publication Opportunity in collaboration with the (IJIS), from Emerald Publishing.

Authors of selected conference papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their work for consideration in a special fast-track review process at the International Journal of Innovation Science. This opportunity is intended to recognize high-quality research that aligns with the journal鈥檚 scope and contributes to advancing knowledge in innovation, resilience, and related fields.

Please note that selection for the fast-track opportunity does not guarantee publication in the journal. Likewise, acceptance of a paper for presentation at the conference does not automatically qualify the manuscript for journal consideration.

Invited manuscripts must:

  • Demonstrate strong scholarly quality, originality, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
  • Be substantially enhanced and expanded beyond the conference version, where applicable.
  • Comply with all submission requirements of the International Journal of Innovation Science.
  • Successfully complete the journal鈥檚 standard double-blind peer-review process.

All invited submissions will be evaluated according to the journal鈥檚 established editorial policies and quality standards. Final publication decisions remain solely at the discretion of the journal鈥檚 editorial team based on reviewer recommendations and editorial assessment.

Additional information regarding eligibility, submission procedures, and timelines will be provided to selected authors following the conference review process.

We encourage researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit their best work and take advantage of this opportunity to further disseminate their research through a leading international peer-reviewed journal.
