What you need before you apply
You’ve done your research, explored your options, and know that Illinois State is the perfect place for you. Now it’s time to apply.
Here's what you should have ready.
Freshman
Freshmen will be required to submit at least one of the following two items:
- An unofficial high school transcript
- Self-reported SAT or ACT scoresÂ
Social Security Number (if you have one).
Intended major or program. Haven't decided yet? Apply as "Undeclared."

Transfer Student
Official transcripts from all institutions attended. Send yours electronically to Admissions@IllinoisState.edu, or mail them to:
Illinois State University
Office of Admissions
Campus Box 2200
Normal, IL 61790-2200
Social Security Number (if you have one).
Courses you are taking or will take before you come to Illinois State.
Intended major or program, if you have chosen one.
Optional personal statement, if you feel this is right for you.
If you have earned fewer than 24 semester hours at the time you apply, you will also need:
- SAT or ACT score (optional)
- Cumulative high school transcript
